After two years of having a plastic feeding bin over our attic fan hole in the roof we have started to work on the cupola. Jim made it out of slotted steel that you use to hang garage door openers. It is all bolted together in two different layers so that there would be a good amount of ventilation for the attic fan. He reinforced it with pressure treated plywood and then covered that with the same metal cladding we used on the roof. He built in a clever service panel on one side and put a tile over just in case we need to get at the fan. He used lots of flashing, foam and caulk to make sure it is weather tight.
The next step was adding the Claddagh weathervane that we bought over two years ago. We took it out of the box and unwrapped it. As Jim was trying to put it together the East- West cross bar broke. It turns out that the East- West interlocks with the North- South so we could not put either piece on and now only have the top piece that shows the direction of the wind. We are very disappointed and will figure out a way to make some new directional's or save up for a new stronger one.
