The offical drywalling has begun. Jim had hung many sheets to give us privacy but that was maybe 10 % done. We ordered the drywall after counting carefully how many we thought would be needed. It was delivered and Jim found yet another tool/tractor that he wants. He loved the three wheeled lifter that they had. (One can dream big.) Hopefully we ordered the right amount.
Jim's father has loaned us his drywall lifter. It is wonderful and makes putting up the 5/8 drywall on the ceilings much easier. We have had some wonderful help from some gentlemen from our homeschool group. They came this past weekend and worked hard. Jim has been sent to California again for work and he gave me the okay to hire one of them to come back out during the week in his free time. He does great work! I hope that he can come this Saturday too when Jim is home.
The house is very dusty with a thin layer of white on everything. But it means progress! We plan to move out while the house is taped, mudded and textured. We plan to stay in the RV and come in at night to shower. It will be weird to have an almost empty house again. Even the toilets have to come back out. We will cover and tape off the floors and windows before the mudding begins. I will have lots of mopping to do so the tape will stick.
We removed as much stuff as could from the house so that I could protect the floors before we had the tape, mud and texture done. I spent all my free time on my knees and boot scooted for days getting the two layers of protection down. I was surprised at how sore I was. It must have been all the hard surfaces and bending over. I am however, very glad that I took the time to do two layers. The drywall crew made a mess and spilt water on the paper causing it it dissolve in spots. So the plastic was a must over the hardwood floors upstairs.
We had Teyo's Drywall do our work. They worked for 4 days tapping and mudding and about 4 hours on the fifth day to spray the texture. Man was it humid in here when that was done!
After the drywall was done and dryed overnight,Jim sprayed primer on the walls and ceiling. He cleared the sprayer and went to work spraying the ceilings and areas that I wanted white. He worked all day on Saturday spraying paint. He was covered in the light paint dust. Saturday night we started to peel up the floor coverings to get the wet, humid feeling out of the house.
We removed the remainder of floor coverings on Sunday to help with the drying out process. All the floors were safe and unpainted. We ran all our vent fans, turned the AC down and put it on fan. The humidity came out by Monday.
I painted the walls for over a week when I had time. They are all painted and waiting for trim. The doors are not done yet.
We have begun to bring things back in and set up the house. It is such a nice feeling to be getting close to being done.
