I have six court house style chairs that I have wanted to redo for years now. So for my first project after school was out was to strip down and sand the chairs in preparation to re-stain them. I worked hard sanding away in the morning hours before it got hot out. I sanded them each three times until they were very smooth. I tried a few different stain colors on the bottom of a chair for color tests and decided on one. I tried a product that I had not used before with the polyurethane added to the stain. The first coat went on pretty well. I did a second coat on one chair and was not at all pleased with the stain color. I got discouraged and stopped the staining of the other chairs until I decided what to do. After a few weeks I decided to start over and re-sanded all six chairs. It was a big drag! It was hotter outside and very frustrating since this was the second time I got to sand the chairs in one month. The next time I stained them I used a gel stain and then sprayed two coats of polyurethane on them. They are not as smooth as before but the color is much better and I am happy.
