In November we started to get our HVAC system installed. We hired someone from church. His name is David Grissom of Grissom Mechanical. At this time he does not have a webpage but if you live in DFW, I reccommend him if you need work on your system.
David worked on our system on the weekends. It took 4 Saturdays to do all the work. On the first trip he worked on leveling the outside pad, setting the outside unit , bringing in the millions of boxes of stuff, and finding the best location for the inside part of the system. On weekend 2, SURPRISE! We changed his inside unit location. He took this very well and went to work setting up the inside unit and getting it pressurized and wired. On weekend 3, he worked on running the downstairs ducts. On weekend 4, he finished by running the upstairs ducts and cutting the floor for floor registers.
I was amazed to see how much actually goes into installing a central heat and air system. I was VERY grateful to have the system running because by weekend 3 it was cold and we turned on the heater. I am glad he did downstairs first. The heat rose upstairs quite well and the kids rooms were toasty warm too.
Jim and our friend Bill started the furring strips around the same time. We knew that it would be too hard to screw drywall into the metal bar joists. It was a buggar to get the second floor decking installed pushing down so we knew trying to screw pushing up from a ladder was not going to work. They started out using long screws but wore out quickly. Jim bought some ring shank nails and used the airgun from then on. Jim said this was much easier, but is going to go back and add screws here and there. The furring strips proved to be alot of work and it took Jim his evenings and a few weekends to do. Our ceiling should not be falling that is for sure.
Jim still needs to put some furring strips along the sides of the open area so that drywall can be hung there to hide all the duct work and wiring. This should not take as long to do. I know that he will be happy to mark this job off his list.
